These Spiced Cupcakes with Maple Cinnamon Frosting are extremely easy to make and are super popular among party guests! Here’s my big secret… the cake is nothing more than a boxed spice cake! The frosting is what makes this cupcake so delicious! This cupcake features a yummy spice cake with a delectable cream cheese maple cinnamon frosting. The recipe provided will create enough batter to make 24 cupcakes.
Kitsch ‘n Whimsy’s Scrumptious Spiced Cupcakes
To begin, you will need to preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Gather your ingredients and then combine the cake mix, milk, oil, and eggs. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure all ingredients are fully mixed together.
Next, line a standard sized cupcake tin with cupcake liners. Using an ice cream scoop, fill 24 (or 12 at a time) cupcake liners ⅔ of the way full with cupcake batter.
Bake for 15-20 minutes (begin checking at the 15 minute mark), or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Then, transfer to a rack to cool completely before frosting.

While your cupcakes are cooling, you will want to go ahead and make your frosting. First, combine the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla in an electric mixer. Be sure to scrape down the sides to ensure the ingredients are completely mixed. Next, add the maple syrup and cinnamon to your mixture until desired taste is achieved. Mix until smooth.
Frost your cupcakes using a gallon sized Ziploc bag and a piping tip. Simply put the frosting tip all the way into a corner of the bag, snip off the end, and you are good to go! Squeeze the top of the bag slightly to have the frosting come out. Then, take a cupcake, and frost in a circle starting from the outside and working towards the middle.
Then, if you like, you can add a sweet little garnish on top of the frosting. For these cupcakes, I like to have a mini square caramel as my cupcake garnish!
Now just enjoy! (If you are preparing a bunch of these for a party and need to store them for a day or two, place the cupcakes in an airtight container and store in the freezer until the day of your party. Then, take them back out a few hours before your party begins to thaw and serve.)
