How to Deep Clean a Toaster

When is the last time you deep cleaned your kitchen? I’m guessing that it’s probably been a while AND I’m also guessing that you probably forgot about a kitchen appliance that gets a LOT of use… but not a lot of cleaning attention. What is this appliance you ask? Well, it is none other than your toaster! Today, we want to help you out by showing you step by step how to deep clean a toaster! The whole process only takes about 15 minutes to complete!

Are you ready to get your counter crumb free and your toaster smoke free? Let’s get to it!

Deep Clean a Toaster

Supplies Needed:

  • Dish Soap (Dawn or a like brand)
  • White Vinegar
  • Spare Spray Bottle
  • Dish Cloth
  • Toothbrush or Basting Brush
  • Dirty Toaster

Step 1: Unplug your toaster and let it completely cool while you gather your supplies. Mix equal parts water and vinegar in your spare spray bottle. Then drop a few dollops of dish soap into the spray bottle as well. Screw the top on the bottle and then shake up the solution.

Step 2: Remove the crumb tray from the bottom of your toaster. It is best to do this over your sink or a garbage to avoid as much mess as possible. Using soapy water, clean off the crumb tray and set aside to dry. (If your toaster does not have a crumb tray, then you can skip this step.)

Step 3: Bring your toaster over your sink, turn it upside down, and shake out as many loose crumbs as possible! Don’t forget to also turn it on its backside so the loose crumbs can also fall out of the hole where the crumb tray used to be!

Shake out Crumbs

Step 4: Using your cleaning toothbrush (or a basting brush), brush down the insides of the toaster slots and the bottom. This will help to remove any stuck-on crumbs from the sides, bottom, and coils.

Step 5: Bring your toaster back over to your sink. Turn it upside down and shake out all of the crumbs you loosened on the inside. You can also shake the crumbs out of the crumb tray hole as well.

Step 6: Repeat steps 4 & 5 until satisfied with the cleanliness of the toaster insides.

Step 7: Using your spray bottle solution, spray the cleaner on the OUTSIDE of your toaster. (Best if used on the misting setting.) This solution will help to break through any grease or smudges found on the outside of your toaster. Then, use a dishcloth to wipe the solution off of and shine up your toaster!

Step 8: Dry off the crumb tray if necessary and insert it back in your toaster.

Step 9: Admire how clean your toaster is!

That’s it! Pretty simple, right? We are so pleased to have a clean toaster again – and even more pleased at the clean counters that have resulted from it!

Do you have any other toaster cleaning methods? What needs the biggest deep clean in your kitchen?
