Plan a Baking Birthday Party: The Party Food

Good morning friend!

I’m so glad you are here this beautiful Saturday morning! Today I will be sharing with you my Birthday Party Food Menu which will include all the food and drinks to serve at your birthday party minus the desserts (all of my cupcake dessert ideas will be coming to you on Monday… so keep an eye out for that post)!

Party Food

Before I share my party food ideas with you this morning, if you haven’t had a chance to read up on parts 1-3 of this seven part series, you will certainly want to jump back and read those as well. Here are the links that will take you there:

OK… so let’s get started! I am now excited to present to you… Kitsch ‘n Whimsy’s Cupcake Birthday Party Menu; which includes the appetizers, main meal, side dish, and drinks.

Kitsch ‘n Whimsy’s Cupcake Birthday Party Menu

1. The Appetizers

While your party guests are all arriving and mingling, it is important to offer them a few snacks to hold them over until the party lunch or dinner food is served. I generally like to have some kind of fruit plate with a fruit dip, especially since kids tend to like the sweeter things in life.

My family has a super delicious and EASY fruit dip recipe that I will share with you. You only need three things: strawberry yogurt, strawberry jello, and cool whip! If you love fruit, then you will love this dip too!

Other good options for appetizers are cheese and cracker plates, veggies and dip, or you could even do something a little fancy like bruschetta.

2. The Main Course

When it comes time to decide on what to serve for your main course, I always opt for something that is easy, keeps well for a while (such as slow cooker food items), and is still super delicious.

The party food I have chosen to serve on my menu today is a double entree combo: Homemade Sloppy Joe’s and Homemade Mac & Cheese. Both of these dishes are super easy – you basically just throw everything together and cook it in a slow cooker or in the oven. I always recommend homemade food because, let’s face it, it is ALWAYS better. Plus, it gets my guests excited to come to a party I’m throwing because they know good food will be involved.

For the Homemade Sloppy Joe’s, I would recommend making 1 recipe for every 8-10 people you have coming. Even though the recipe only calls for 8 hamburger buns, you can definitely get away with purchasing more buns and stretching the meat a few buns further – especially if you make the Homemade Mac & Cheese as well.

When making the Homemade Mac & Cheese, I recommend the same as the Sloppy Joe’s, about 1 recipe for every 8-10 guests. I usually prep the Mac & Cheese in low cost, disposable casserole baking dishes for ease of clean up later. The Mac & Cheese will take about 30 minutes to bake, so I suggest throwing these in the oven right before your guests start arriving. That way all of your food will be ready to serve once everybody has arrived to your party!

3. The Side Dishes

baked beans

While I feel that just serving our Homemade Sloppy Joe’s and Homemade Mac & Cheese is plenty for a party menu, you can also add a side dish or two if you feel you will need more food. With this type of food, I would recommend warming up a can of Baked Beans or making some warm Corn Bread. Either would be delicious with what you are already making  AND, most importantly, they are extremely simple to make. I would not recommend making your side dishes from scratch since you are already doing that with your main courses. However, if you feel so inclined to do so, then more power to you!

4. The Drinks

Lastly, you will want to have a small variety of drinks available to your guests. I recommend having one or two types of soda as well as some iced tea, water, and perhaps some lemonade. Although, if you want to stay away from serving soda, then just add in some kind of juice for the kids to drink! With food like Sloppy Joe’s and Mac & Cheese, I always think that tea and lemonade are perfect choices!

Well, what do you think? Have I got you hungry this morning? I hope your taste buds are all activated and you are feeling inspired to come up with the party food you will include on your party menu. Feel free to just take my menu and make it your own. Even if you don’t have a party coming up, I hope that you will still give these recipes a try. I promise that you won’t be disappointed that you do!

I hope you have a great weekend and that you will stop back by on Monday to hear about my second most favorite party planning topic: the desserts! You won’t want to miss it!

Until then, remember to take a moment for yourself today to breathe, relax, and enjoy your exciting life!

Have a beautiful day,

Krystal Idunate

PS: Are you planning to try any of these recipes? If you do, please tell me what you think of them!
