How to Throw a Back to School Themed Party: A Back to School Party Guide – Part 1

As the month of August begins, I can’t help but feel a little sad that the end of summer is fast approaching. However, as backpacks, crayons, notebooks, and other school supplies begin to take the place of pool toys and sunscreen at the superstores, children everywhere are beginning to feel the budding emotions of anxiousness, excitement, and eagerness over the beginning of a new academic year. That is why this time of the year is the perfect time to host a Back to School themed party that acknowledges and honors the summer months gone by, but that also looks forward to the new school season on the horizon.

I’m sure like me, you remember this time of year during your childhood very well! Do you remember how excited you used to get when you knew you were going to see all of your school friends again after the long summer? With your school-aged kids, a Back to School themed party is the perfect opportunity to invite over all of your children’s friends who haven’t been around during the summer. Your kids will have time to catch up with each other, rekindle the friendships they had nurtured throughout the past school year, and will be able to release any of the nervous energy they may be feeling over whether their friends will still be their friends this year.

Do you remember how you used to feel so nervous, and yet excited over learning who your teacher(s) were going to be in the new school year? Or how nervous you felt over which of your friends were going to be in your same classroom? A Back to School themed party can provide a fun and safe environment for children to reveal their new teacher assignments to each other, to be comforted by their friends who will be in different classrooms and reassured that those friendships will still be there, and to begin to develop further relationships with their new classmates.

Do you remember the eagerness you used to feel about getting back to your studies, to having goals to accomplish again after a summer of fun and relaxation, and even towards the homework assignments you knew you wanted to ace? (Maybe I was the only one who got excited about homework at the beginning of the year… but something tells me I’m not alone!) A Back to School themed party can help to get your children excited about the academia in their future.

Through party games and activities, you can help your children and their friends to get in the mindset of school and learning – all while having fun! Through playing ice-breaker games, teamwork activities (the knot game anyone?), or good ‘ol recess yard games (i.e. Red Rover), the kids at your Back to School party will be sure to have an enhanced excitement over the beginning of the school year.

However, it is important to note that a Back to School themed party is not just about building excitement for the new school year. As I said in the beginning, this time of year can be a little bittersweet. I’m sure that you remember well the sadness and disappointment you felt when you knew the summer was coming to a close. By hosting a Back to School party, you will also be able to give your children and their guests the opportunity to share about their summer, to celebrate all that they have experienced through the summer months, and to honor all of the fun experiences they enjoyed. Planning games and activities to bring out these special memories will help children to remember and to share about all of their summer adventures.

I believe that a Back to School themed party is essential for this time of year. That is why I have decided to focus all of the month of August on creating an epic seven part guide to planning such a party. I will be releasing a new blog post every Monday and Friday morning, with each post focusing on a specific element of the party! I will be talking about the invitations, decorations, menu, desserts, games/activities, and the favors. This party guide will be concluded on the 22nd of August, which is in plenty of time for you to host your own party before the school year begins. The series will then be followed up by a few bonus blog posts before we begin our next party guide in September.

I hope you are as excited about this party guide as I am! To make sure that you don’t miss a post, make sure to subscribe to our newsletter! Our newsletter goes out only twice a month… but we always include information about our newest posts, as well as information about our party aprons and accessory product lines and of course send out the occasional discount codes. You can subscribe to our newsletter by filling out the form at the bottom of this page.

I am so glad that you are along for the journey in planning this party with me! I hope to see you back this Friday, when I will be talking about party invitations! Until then, I hope you have a wonderful week (and don’t work too hard)!

Have a beautiful day!
