How to Ask Your Child about Their School Day

School is IN! Well… for most of you anyway! (We still have one more week to go until the 1st day of school this year.) And with school being in session, it means it is also the time of year for asking the typical “how was your day” question and getting the typical answer of “good”.

I don’t know about you… but “good” is not good enough for me!

I want to have deeper conversations where I actually get to find out more about my child’s or my husband’s day! I want my family to open up and feel excited to tell me everything.

So, in defiance of the “how was your day” question, I have come up with a list of 20 questions to ask your child about their school day. These questions are perfect for asking your children or your husband to help them open up and have a real conversation about their day at school or work!

I believe these questions will provide you with some great conversation starters for your family. I have created a free downloadable PDF at the bottom of this post – that way you can print them off and have them on hand at your next family dinner!

20 Questions to Ask Your Child or Husband about Their Day

In asking  questions that are a little more specific, your kids and husband will have an easier time coming up with more specific answers – or at least something a little better than “good”!

Just like the suggested questions we had for asking before school begins, here we also encourage you to ask both positive and negative questions. By asking negative questions, you can help your child (or husband) to bring up fears and concerns they may have. This allows for you to really dig into those topics with them. You may be able to help them feel more at ease or possibly come up with some ways to counter that fear (or problem) when it happens next time.

I hope you find these after school family dinner questions helpful for starting conversations with your children and/or your husband! As for me, I will have to just hold onto these for when my little girl starts school in a few years… BUT I can give them all a try on my hubby starting tonight!

Now that our Back to School theme has come to an end, we are excited to share that we will be switching up our blogging content starting this September.

We will continue releasing two posts a week (still on Mondays and Fridays) and Monday’s will still be all about party planning, BUT we are switching up our Friday post topics to cover content relating to home management (such as cleaning, cooking, organizing, and more!). I can’t wait to start bringing you new ideas and content about home management – as it is one of my super passions!

We hope that you will come back by on Monday to read the first part of our 3 part Paris Birthday Party Guide. Don’t forget to subscribe to our mailing list so you can be sure to be reminded of our upcoming blog series!

Have a great weekend!
